PRINGLE TARTAN JUMPER

Just take a look at this jumper. Nothing quite hits the nail on the tartan trend head like this pure wool 80s Pringle baby does!

It's just perfect for Winter when, come February you've had a teasing taste of sunshine for a couple of days but deep down you know you need something warm, even if the ss'13 fashions are popping up in the shops like daisies.

Model - Jess Ryder

Paired with a pale grey jersey skater skirt and a flash of gold jewellery to set it off, you'd be surprised to know that this cosy jumper cost me no more than £1 at Herne Bay car boot sale.

As they say, the early bird catches the worm!

VALENTINE'S POP-UP BOUTIQUE

February has been super busy so far so excuse the gap in posts! I’ve been filling my days off with photo-shoots of cool and on-trend winter clothes I’ve come across, and of corse scouring my local charity shops and car boot sales for new (old!) stuff.

The main event this month so far has been the Valentine’s Vintage pop-up shop which I co-hosted along with my friend and fellow vintage seller Greta, of Bell Bottom Vintage www.facebook.com/bellbottomvintage held at her quirky home in the middle of Canterbury which she transformed into a vintage treasure trove. We were selling everything from retro clothes, shoes and accessories to handmade jewellery, to kitsch kitty ornaments and 80s Valentine’s Cards! Everything was sourced second hand, right down to the cutesy earrings and hairpins made by Greta out of pretty vintage buttons!

Here are just a few photos of the day which turned out to be a great success. We salute everybody that braved the freezing temperatures to come down and see us and pick up a pre-loved item to add to their wardrobes and daily style. And now that it’s all over with I can let you in on the prices paid for the stuff I had on sale...

How adorable is a sickly sweet card to give to your beau on the most over the top romantic day of the year?! I picked up these oversized 80s Valentines cards from Herne Bay car boot fair for 30p each. The cat ornaments were of various prices ranging from free to 50p. What girl doesn’t love cats?

One of the stylish browsers that turned up to the event in Greta’s living room, which she made up into a kooky welcoming dressing parlour complete with fairy lights and record player where shoppers could request a record to be put on- anything from Blondie to 50’s rock n roll goes! You can come across records like these in any charity shop and they’re rarely ever priced over £1. You might find something you’ve found is worth a lot more...

I find music on vinyl is a lot more fun for parties and gatherings than simply looking up and playing a song on Youtube. There’s something special about choosing a record and spinning it on the deck amongst friends, and the gratification of approval for a song they love but haven’t heard in ages!

I picked this glossy cherry-red record player up for £60 with barely a scratch on it, half the RRP from Rod the record dealer who I mentioned previously has a vinyl section in the shop I work in. So now I have two in the same model, along with the bubblegum pink one I
got for my sweet 16th!

We also had cake and mulled wine for guests. The 70’s floral decanter you see here was bought at a boot fair years ago in Malta and cost me 2 Euro, perfect for keeping the homemade mulled wine recipe nice and hot, just as well as it will keep pink lemonade (or more likely a nice Rose wine) chilled for a day with my girlfriends at Whitstable beach.

This was the main boutique room where shoppers could flick through our rails of retro wares and pick up a unique bargain to wear with a smile :)

I thoroughly enjoyed this event, albeit semi stressful to plan! Meeting fellow fashion enthusiasts and making friends was the icing on the heart shaped cake. It’s just the start of many to follow this year, watch this space... <3
